Meteorological conditions of Danang City
20/02/2014 11:30:39

Danang City has two main seasons: a rainy season beginning from September to December and a dry season starting from January to August. Every year Danang is influenced by at least one hurricane or tropical depression level 6 or higher.

Danang is located in the tropical belt of the Northern Hemisphere, exposing to a high level of solar radiation, while being dominated by the monsoon circulation and trade wind, and affected by turbulences such as tropical storms, depressions and intertropical convergence zone ...

Based on the topography and climate, Danang can be divided into two areas: the coastal plain and mountainous area. The coastal plain has high average temperature and chronic rainfall with two periods: drought from February to August and heavy rain from September to December. The average temperature is lower in the mountainous area but with higher rainfall. This area is also frequently affected by flash floods.

Atmospheric circulation plays an important role in shaping the climate of Danang, being the main causes of the seasonal climate changes. The rainy season lasts for 04 months, from September to December, with the heaviest rainfall in October and November (accounting for 40-60% of total annual rainfall). In these two months, major floods often occur in the rivers with the number of floods above level 1 accounting for 80% of  total annual number of floods. The dry season is from January to August, in which the driest period is from January to April with the total rainfall accounting for approximately 8% of annual rainfall. In the following two months, there is grain rain, but in July and August, rivers are in their driest period due to the Southwest winds that cause the strongest evaporation. This is also the heaviest saltwater intrusion period of the year.
